  Residental Metal Roofing

Due to the frequent request for information on our Florida locations and the recent hurricanes, we have put together a FAQ’s section dedicated to the state of Florida. :

How long have you been in business?
Cumings Catastrophe Roofing has been in business since 1999. However, hiring some of the best in the business over the past few years, we have over 25 years of industry knowledge and experience at each one of our locations.

Where are you located?
We are a nationwide company with offices across the United States. See our “locations” page on this web site for addresses and contact info. We have two operation and distribution centers in the state. They supply our local field staff with materials, office support, and customer service. They are located in Fort Myers and Port St. Lucie. Both of these centers are capable of storing over 500,000 square feet of roofing materials at any given time. It has been beneficial to our customer base having a centralized location on each coast with this much distribution power. We also supply materials to other roofing and construction companies, aiding in quicker clean up after a hurricane.

Are you a licensed contractor in the state of Florida?
Yes. Cumings Catastrophe Roofing holds a CCC status with the State of Florida. We are capable of performing work throughout the entire state. Many companies hold only a temporary licenses status. This means that they are only allowed to perform work for a certain amount of time. However, without some of the temporary licenses granted by Governor Bush, much of the damaged from the hurricanes in 2004 would still be un-touched. Now that the situation has settled down some, it may be in your best interest to search out a state licensed contractor on a more local basis. During the storm aftermath, it was difficult to connect with a local contractor as they were so flooded with business. Many found it hard to even get a call back after leaving several messages. Our advice is to simply find a contractor that treats you right all around. Response time is important as well as what kind of service they have to provide.

Are you insured? What about workers compensation insurance?
We are fully licensed, bonded and insured. The state of Florida requires contractors to carry workers compensation insurance on their workers. Cumings carries workers comp on every one of its employees. One red flag that your contractor may not be legal with workers compensation is a low ball bid. If you are reading this far into roofing companies you more than likely have received estimates. Have you received some that are outrageously lower than the average? Contracting in Florida “the legal way” is not cheap. Those who cut corners with workers comp, can cut their prices that much more. The price may be very appealing, however if someone gets hurt on your property, they are completely capable of handing you a lawsuit. For your own good, check it out with who ever you choose to do your work.

How long does it take to get the work done?
Most of our work is completed within one to two weeks of signing. There is typically only two days of construction time involved with removing your old roof and installing a new one. Most of the city and county governments in the State of Florida require inspections during the work process. Therefore, depending on where you live, will dictate how quickly you’re new roof is installed.

Do I need to obtain a building permit to have my roof done?
Yes, you more than likely will. Again, most city and county governments require you or the contractor to purchase a building permit. To put your mind at ease, Cumings will not only pay for your permit, we will pull it for you as well. Each one of our locations employs a full time permit puller. They will ensure that the proper channels take place in pulling your permit, documenting the work appropriately with the property appraiser’s office. What does this do? In most cases, showing you have a new roof will increase your properties value and proves the work was done legally by a licensed contractor.

What if I already pulled my permit and now want a contractor to complete the work?
This does not propose a problem in most cases. You may just have to be present while the work is being done.

How much money do you require in advance or up-front?
We require no money down. In fact we do not collect a penny until the work is completed and you are one hundred percent satisfied. (With in reason)

Do you warranty your work?
Cumings Roofing offers a multi year workmanship warranty on all full roof replacements. Ask your represenative for more details. Also, depending on what type of roofing material you choose, the manufacturer typically offers a warranty of 25-50 years.
However, we typically do not warranty any “shingle over” or two layer roofing applications where our new product is installed over “old” or existing roofing material. These situations are consulted on a case by case basis.

What kind of materials do you use?
Most all building materials in the State of Florida are regulated in some way due to the threat of hurricanes and sun exposure. We use only materials that are approved and certified in Florida.
For example: we use only Class A shingles which all rate in the top ten with Consumer Report Magazine. All of these brands are ASTM / D 3462 and Miami Dade County Approved. They have wind ratings up to 70 mph

“My insurance company only gave me this much and all of my estimates are for more money. What are my     options?”
This is not uncommon. Insurance companies are not perfect and they sometimes make mistakes. With Cumings as your contractor we can review your insurance claims paperwork with you and personally negotiate your fair claim amount with the insurance company. It is called a claim supplement. In most cases, we can do the work for the amount we negotiate with your insurance company. These terms are under full replacement policies.

What are my “out of pocket” costs?
1. The most common is your deductible. This is the amount you have previously agreed upon with your insurance company.
2. You are responsible to pay for any upgrades. These are completely optional. (See the next FAQ below)

“Why would we want to upgrade and what would we upgrade?”
Your insurance company will pay to make your roof look and protect your home the way it was before the damage. However, since you need a new one anyways, we can show you a few fairly inexpensive ways for you to improve the curb appeal and more importantly the structural integrity of your home.
